A door that feels heavy or refuses to open is one of those things people tend to ignore until it stops working completely. Nine times out of ten, a worn or broken torsion spring is the culprit. Springs do all the heavy lifting - literally - and when they go, the door either struggles badly or won't budge at all.
That's exactly what we were dealing with here. The spring had given out, leaving the door unable to operate safely. This is actually one of the more common garage door repair calls we get, and it's also one of the more dangerous things to put off. A failing spring puts serious strain on the opener motor and can cause the door to drop unexpectedly.
We swapped out the worn spring and got the door moving the way it should - smooth, balanced, and safe. You can see the opener is still in solid shape up top, which is great. Once the spring was sorted, everything came back into proper alignment and the door operated normally again.
If your door sounds different than it used to - grinding, popping, or just feeling unusually heavy when you lift it manually - that's your warning sign. Catching a spring before it snaps completely can save you from a much bigger repair bill and a door that's stuck shut at the worst possible moment.
Spring replacement is part of our garage door repair work, but we also do full maintenance and tune-ups if you want a technician to go through the whole system and catch anything else that might be wearing down. A little preventive attention goes a long way.
